Out of Office: How to use the OOO auto reply to your advantage
If you're a freelance creative sending out pitches and building contacts, it's inevitable that you're going to be hit with extra OOO replies during the summer months.
Here's the thing though... The OOO reply is actually super valuable.
Why?
1. It confirms that you have the right address. That's big!2. You now know this person still works at the company and checks emails regularly enough to set the OOO automation.3. They usually say the dates they will be OOO, so you know exactly when to follow up when they get back.4. They usually put a few names and emails of other people to reach out to in the meantime. They just did 30 minutes of lead generation work for you.5. It might give you a talking point to break the ice when you do get in touch with them. Can you share travel stories together? Do they have some new recommendations?
So don't let the automatic OOO reply discourage you. Follow up and keep putting yourself out there - luck finds those that put themselves into the position to be lucky.
